5/19/2023 0 Comments Slice by Steven Herrick'Is that where someone says a word and I say "sex" back?' 'Have you ever played "word association"? You'd be an expert.' 'You say like to say the first thing that comes into your head, don't you, Darcy?' I loved the conversations that Darcy had in this book with various characters but especially Audrey. However, the slight lack of emotion is made up for by the dialogue that is full of humor. Don't get me wrong this book was still warm and touching just not as powerful. Personally, I prefer his verse books because they get across more emotion. It was actually his first YA prose novel. Unlike the previous books of Herrick's that I have read this one wasn't written in verse. It was awesome to read a book where parents were a positive and entertaining part of the story. There is also plenty of impressive and slightly off beat secondary characters like Audrey, Noah and Darcy's parents. It was interesting to see what guys really think. Herrick really did an amazing job of writing the character Darcy and he offers a brilliant and honest insight into the world of a teenage boy. Slice is the story of 16 year old boy Darcy, who's mouth is constantly getting him into trouble. I love books that make you laugh and leave you feeling good and that sums up Slice perfectly. I mean what I say, I just shouldn'st say it aloud." Our friend Pete would describe it as - ahem - premature enunciation. My favourite quote: "I'm sixteeen years old and my mouth runs ahead of my brain.

Wicked Gentlemen is actually two closely related shorter stories compiled into one collection. In other words, if you have seen or read any tale of zealots gone wild, you’ll be familiar with what this setting offers. Prodigal children are forced to attend corrective centers. The men and women of the cloth run a brutal Inquisition that sees many Prodigals and their human allies tortured in the interrogation chambers of the church. Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out as planned because at the time the story takes place, the Prodigals are a persecuted minority, confined to living in a belowground ghetto more popularly known as Hell’s Below. A long time ago, some demons emerged from the world below hoping to find some kind of salvation by submitting to the human priests. In this world, we have humans living with demons called the Prodigals. Perhaps I should explain the setting first. I can’t write like Ms Hale, so I’m afraid you’ll just have to settle for such trite words like “poetic” and “beautiful” from me to describe the effect Ms Hale’s prose has on me. Author Ginn Hale writes in such an elegant and lyrical manner that this steampunk gay fantasy story has a dark fairy tale atmosphere as a result. Wicked Gentlemen is a most remarkable book to read. 5/18/2023 0 Comments M friedman capitalism and freedom|a The relation between economic freedom and political freedom - The role of government in a free society - The control of money - International financial and trade arrangements - Fiscal policy - The role of government in education - Capitalism and discrimination - Monopoly and the social responsibility of business and labor - Occupational licensure - The distribution of income - Social welfare measures - Alleviation of poverty. |a Includes bibliographical references and index. |a Originally published: Chicago : University of Chicago Press. |a Chicago : |b University of Chicago Press, |c 2002.
